Valencia meeting

Cold, but heart-warming. Our hosts in Valencia considered the January period with maximum temperatures of about 13 degrees centigrade as cold days and complained that this weather was exceptionally chilly. But the way in which they received the Netwerk Roze FNV delegation was very warm, and they we were able to exchange experiences on a very extensive scale.

The invitation to come over to Valencia was a result of the contacts established at the Freedom at Work conference in Amsterdam, in the Summer of 2016. At that time, a Comisiones Obreras (CCOO) delegation went to the Netherlands. In January, 2017, Lili Brouwer and Michiel Odijk went to Valencia on behalf of the Netwerk Roze FNV.

At an official meeting, they presented information about the situation in the Netherlands, about the activities of their Network and about the common European context. The audience consisted not only of LGBTI activists, but also CCOO board members and policy advisors. They showed a lot of interest in the information as presented. But this official meeting was only a small part of the whole programme. Informal exchange of experiences and ideas were also an essential part of the programme. Fortunately, this was a real exchange and not a one-way direction of information.

A number of the participants of the meeting did not have to leave immediately, and participated in the informal talks.
A useful, informative, and pleasant period!
