Jón Gnarr Kristinsson

Jón Gnarr KristinssonThe Icelandic musician, writer, comedian, actor and politician Jón Gnarr Kristionsson (Reyjavik, 1967; married to Jóhanna Jóhannsdóttir) was diagnosed (first incorrectly with severe mental retardation, later) with ADHD in his childhood, and played as a teenager, under the name of Jónsi Punk bass guitar in a punk band called Nefrennsli (= running nose). In the nineties, he became active as a writer, actor and (stand-up) comedian, working for radio, tv, movies, and commercial ads. He gradually became a well-known actor to the public, e.g. by his role in the feature film Bjarnfreõarson (2009).

When, late in 2009, Jón Gnarr Kristinsson and several friends decided to found a political party "The Best Party", this was mainly meant as a joke and a burlesque. However, the 2010 municipal elections in Reykjavik were a big success for the new party, and a shock to the Icelandic prime minister Jóhanna Sigurõardóttir: The Best Party became the winner of the elections. The centre-rightwing city government of Reykjavik was defeated and Jón's Best Party entered a new coalition with the Social-Democratic Alliance for the city government. Jón Gnarr Krisinsson became mayor of Reykjavik.
One of the actions as a mayor that shocked some and amused others was his participation in the 2010 Idelandic Gay Pride, in which he marched in drag.

Jón Gnarr Kristinsson delivered the good-morning speech on the 1st of August at the Antwerp conference.
