Kenita Placide


Kenita PlacideKenita Placide studied at the University of Toronto and is the co-executive director of United and Strong, a LGBTI human rights organisation in Saint Lucia, with responsibilities for media advocacy and programs.
She served as co-secretary general to the Caribbean LGBTI group CariFLAGS from 2010 to 2012 and still serves as the coordinator of the Eastern Caribbean Hub.
In addition, she contributed to the ILGA World Board as past alternate co-secretary general and present key person in the alternate women's secretariat. She has undertaken many training courses in HIV/AIDS education, human rights, empowerment, counseling, facilitation, financial management, psychology, paralegals and media advocacy.

Kenita Placide submitted the first presentation by United and Strong to Saint Lucia's Constitution Reform Commission in 2009 and followed up with a submission to the Universal Periodic Review process at the United Nations in 2010. She was instrumental in organising the first OECS regional security and human rights training for LGBT and sexual rights defenders, and made history when she coordinated the Carribean's first international Dialogue on Human Rights in February of 2010, in Saint Lucia.
Her most recent activity is the strategising and planning if the first Caribbean Women and Sexual Diversity Conference planned for Curraçao in September of 2013.
