Karen Hultzer

Karen HultzerKaren Hultzer (1962, Cape Town) has achieved success in many sporting disciplines since her sporting interest was initially awakened by her father whom she would accompany to hockey matches from the age of 4. A year later she was crewing on his yacht when his regular team did not arrive at a competition.
Having been told from an early age that anything was possible and then achieving it has nurtured one of her most dominant strengths: determination. She picked up a bow and arrow for the first time in 2007 and shortly thereafter declared that she would be participating in the Olympic Games. She qualified for, and represented, South Africa in the Olympic Games in London, five years after beginning archery. At he Olympics, she came out as a lesbian.
Apart from her sporting career, in which she also coaches a small group of archers and sells archery equipment, she has a work career where she owns a landscaping business.
Her sense of humour and direct manner have aided her with the few incidents of direct homophobia she has experienced.

Karen Hultzer participated in a so-called couch session at the Antwerp conference.
