History New York celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots with a massive demonstration for lesbian and gay rights. ILGA organised its world conference in New York. The Gay Games took place in New York. And somewhere in between those events, a meeting took place of trade unionists, mainly from Canada and the US, where lesbian and gay trade union rights were discussed. A few Europeans also visited this meeting. At this meeting, the idea was born to organise a true world conference about lesbian and gay trade union rights in 1998, in Amsterdam. This idea was inmediately discussed in, and endorsed by, the ILGA world conference. Those of you who can add significant dates and facts to this table, |
